Sacraments of First Reconciliation
& First Eucharist

WHO CAN REGISTER? Students in Grades 2 and older who have not received these Sacraments are invited to register. Candidates should have already received the Sacrament of Baptism, the beginning of our Christian faith. If this is not the case, please contact our parish office.

HOW DO I REGISTER? Registration is only
available online at www.holynamestalphonsus.com/sacraments Please note that you are registering for both Sacraments when you register, no need to register again in the Spring.

WHO HAS TO ATTEND THE PREPARATION SESSIONS? Our preparation sessions take place on Wednesday evenings at Holy Name of Jesus Church. Each evening mixes teachings with activities designed to inspire, have fun, deepen faith and build new friendships. At least one parent must attend the session with your child, however we encourage both parents, or those entrusted with the spiritual care of the child to participate as well. This year, there are only three sessions to attend before
celebrating each Sacrament, therefore, attendance at our preparation sessions is mandatory.

ATTENDANCE AT MASS Since you are preparing for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion, you are asked to make a renewed commitment to your life of faith, which includes attending Sunday Mass each Sunday as Catholics are required to do. We invite you to make Sunday Mass part of your families weekend once again, and make yourselves part of the parish community. Please familiarize yourself with our Sunday Mass times and dates for our special events.

THE CELEBRATION OF first reconciliation The actual celebration of your child’s First Reconciliation will take place in a “drop-in” format on Saturday, December 7 between 10am and 12pm at Holy Name of Jesus Church. You and your child will show up, make their First Confession, and then they are free to leave.

THE CELEBRATION OF first COMMUNION The actual celebration of your child’s First Communion will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11am at Holy Name of Jesus Church. You are welcome to invite family members to attend this Mass, and more information will be given closer to the date.

PARENT PARTICIPATION We ask that you encourage your child during our time of preparation by reiterating some of the teachings shared during our sessions, working with them through the workbook and living your faith in a way that is attractive for them.

SUBMITTING BAPTISM CERTIFICATE Since Baptism is the beginning of our life with Jesus, we ask that you submit proof of your child’s Baptism, by providing us a copy of the Baptism Certificate. If your child was baptized at Holy Name of Jesus or St. Alphonsus Liguori, just indicate this on the registration, and we will look it up in our records. If your child was baptized at another Catholic church, we need a copy. This can be dropped off at the parish office, or you can take a good quality photo of it and send it to our parish email ([email protected]). If your child was never baptized, or was baptized in another Christian denomination, please contact our parish office about how to proceed.

- Proof of Baptism
  Baptism is the beginning of the Christian Life. To receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation & First Communion, your child should have already received the Sacrament of Baptism. If they have not been baptized, please contact the parish office as soon as possible.
  
  If they have been Baptized at either Holy Name of Jesus Church, North Bay or St. Alphonsus Liguori Church, Callander - then we already have their information for Baptism. No further action needed.
  
  If they have been Baptized at any other church - Catholic or other Christian church - you need to provide us with a copy of their Baptismal Certificate. If you have a copy of it, you can simply scan it or take a picture of it and email it to our parish office ([email protected]). If you do not have a copy of it, you have to contact the church where they were baptized and request a copy. We need a copy of this Certificate before we can officially register your child.
