WHY DO WE “OFFER A MASS” FOR SOMEONE? For Catholics, we believe that the Mass is the most powerful form of prayer, the Risen Christ becomes present on the Altar. Certainly there are many spiritual fruits and benefits from participating in the Mass - but also when Mass is offered for someone who has died, or for the intentions of a living person, the spiritual benefits, fruits and graces are applied to that particular intention of the Mass. While it is common to offer a Mass for the repose of the soul of someone who has died, there are many different reasons to ask a priest to offer a Mass for a particular intention, such as: for someone facing difficulty, for someone who is sick, for someone celebrating a birthday or anniversary, in thanksgiving for prayers answered, etc. It is an awesome gift to give to someone, and the very best thing one can do for those who have died. The Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie has requested that a suggested donation of $15.00 be offered per Mass Intention. Please use our Mass Intention Request Envelopes found at the back of our churches or call the Parish Office to schedule a Mass Intention. Can you honour someone - alive or deceased - by offering a Mass for them?
