LENT BEGINS IN LESS THAN THREE WEEKS! It’s not too early to start planning out your Lent! What are some things we can take on or give up for this Season of Lent?
Remember: the purpose of “giving something up” is to make more room for our spiritual life.
Lent begins on February 17 (Ash Wednesday) and ends on Easter Sunday (April 4).
During the Season of Lent we are all asked to: PRAYER & CHARITY: Can include daily Mass (when available again!), reading of the Scripture, praying the Stations of the Cross, giving to those in need, showing mercy and kindness to others.
FASTING: A limit of one full meatless meal by those aged 18-59 on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday
ABSTINENCE: To refrain from meat by those 14 years of age and older (and those who can) on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays in Lent.
Here are some ideas you can either take on or give up for Lent:
WHAT I CAN 'TAKE ON': · Reading the Scriptures daily · Listening to a good Catholic podcast or reading a Catholic book · Giving compliments to those close to you or checking in on others · Giving up buying take out or a daily coffee and giving that money to the needy · Praying the Stations of the Cross · Spring Cleaning of the house to donate to charity · Pray for your family, friends, priest, those who are lonely, those who have died, etc.
WHAT I CAN 'GIVE UP': · Gossip, Criticism, Complaining · Social Media, Netflix, TV, · Playing video games, or games on your cell phone/tablet · Music on constantly in background · Drinking or smoking · Snacking between meals · Sins you struggle with: ---- using pornography; ---- lying, anger, pride; ---- being lazy; ---- swearing; ---- harsh judgements; - selfishness, putting self first
