MY CHRISTMAS WISHES TO YOU: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation… and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. (Isaiah 52:7,10)
This piece of Scripture we find in the readings for Christmas Mass “during the day” in our Liturgical options - and speaks to me of what this Christmas Season is about, and who we as Christians are. The Lord’s birth reminds us that we have had peace announced to us, we have been brought good news, our salvation has been announced - and most profoundly, all the ends of the earth have seen their salvation! What great news for this Christmas and for always. My wish for all of us this Christmas is that we never forget this. Even in the toughest trials, difficulties or challenges that we face, do not forget that God has brought us peace, good news and salvation. Let’s remind ourselves often what God has done for us. And if we are having difficulty finding that peace, or hearing the good news, or moving toward our salvation - let’s pray deeply and sincerely that the Lord who brought light to the darkness of our world will illuminate in us a new way of looking for peace, listening for good news and desiring our salvation.
My prayer for our parish in 2023 is that we can all unite together in making it our mission to let others outside of our building find peace in Jesus, hear the Good News, and see the salvation that God has given to us at that first Christmas. Together, let’s share the fruit of our prayer, let’s invite others to the community, and let’s reach out to those who need us, and even those who think they don’t need us. Let’s continue the good work of our parish, and continue to fulfill the Scripture that all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God. I am praying for you that the Lord can be reborn in our hearts and enflame in us a passion to announce peace, bring good news and announce salvation to those around us. On behalf of Deacon Allan Charette and all of our parish staff, I wish you all the many blessings of Christmas and hope the Lord may fill us with his great love this Christmas Season and into the New Year!
