Dear Parishioners of Holy Name of Jesus & St. Alphonsus Liguori,
Upon hearing the horrific news of the discovery at the former Kamloops Residential School, I felt it was important to communicate to you rather than remaining silent. I have always tried to be transparent with you in all matters, and so I continue to do so here.
The recent news coming from the former Kamloops Residential School has saddened me greatly and brought upon feelings of embarrassment and shame. The hurt caused in the past, is still present today, and much is needed to begin healing. My heart breaks for all the lives lost, the families affected and the survivors of Residential Schools.
Our parish community stands in solidarity with our Indigenous brothers and sisters, and so I ask you to join me in offering your prayers for them, the souls of the children who lost their lives and their families. I also pray that our Lord Jesus Christ, through his own suffering on the cross, may help heal all affected, and that our Blessed Mother Mary, who mourned at the loss of her own Son, may intercede for us against such tragedies and injustices.
