“And suddenly there was with the Angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favours.’” (Luke 2:13-14)
With great joy we celebrate the Solemnity of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ – and our voices join the multitude in heaven giving glory to God on this day. This day for us, even though the story is familiar to each one of us, should bring us new and fresh joy and peace in our hearts.
As we reflect on the magnitude of the Christmas event – where God takes on our humanity – we must let Jesus who is born in the manger be reborn in each of our hearts and each of our lives.
The birth of Jesus should remind each of us that we are never alone, but forever in the presence of God who was birthed into this world. Even though at times we may face great difficulties and sorrow, we must let the celebration of Christmas reassure us that we no longer journey through our lives on our own, but the great love of God accompanies us always and forever.
Just as God has gone to extraordinary measures to prove his love for us by revealing himself in Jesus, so he continues to use extraordinary measures to win over our hearts each day of our lives.
The story of Christmas should constantly encourage us that God will stop at nothing to provide for our needs and reveal his true self to us. And in this we give glory to God for the wonders he has done, and continues to do for us in order to find the peace we all yearn for.
On behalf of Deacon Allan Charette and our parish staff, I wish you all the many blessings of Christmas and a joyous and grace-filled new year!
